Mission Statement

New Mexico Wax is a statewide organization of professional artists whose work ranges from traditional to contemporary uses of encaustic (pigmented wax).  Our purposes are: to exhibit the work of our member artists; to educate the public about the encaustic medium; and to exchange information and share techniques for working with encaustic.

Tsosie work to Chicago show




New Mexico Wax member Harriette Tsosie's diptych- "Totem" -has been selected for inclusion in "Cross Pollination," an exhibition at Chicago's Woman Made Gallery. The exhibition opens with a reception from 6:00 - 9:00 PM on November 20 and works remain on exhibit through December 17. Woman Made Gallery is located at 685 Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL 60642. The gallery is open Wednesdays - Fridays from Noon until 7:00 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from Noon until 4:00 PM. Trabaudo Work in Harwood Show


Eleanor Trabaudo's work is part of a group exhibition "In Other Words" which opens at the Harwood Art Center Friday, October 2 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM The work remains on exhibit through October 28th. The Harwood Art Center is locatd at 1114 Seventh Street NW, Albuquerque. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. "In Other Words" is the 2009 Luna Project and includes 13 artists with 13 visions. Trabaudo'swork -- "Clips" --appears above.

Encaustic Art Institute Gala a Success


The Encaustic Art Institute of New Mexico opening gala held Saturday, September 12th was a success. The silent auction raised several thousand dollars for the Institute and encaustic artists sold several works with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the artists. A big thank you to founder Douglas Mehrens for hosting this event.

Encaustic Art Institute opens with gala September 12

Members of New Mexico Wax are collaborating with the newly formed non profit Encaustic Art Institute of New Mexico on its gala opening, September 12 from 5 - 8:00 PM. Tickets are $50/person. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. Included in the ticket price are a buffet dinner, live music, a silent auction and gallery viewing of encaustic art. Paschall Shows at IAIA, Takes Two at Indian Market



Cherokee painter and printmaker Sallyann Paschall and Dine’ jeweler Jacqueline Smith present new work at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts’ (MCNA) Lloyd Kiva New Gallery at an exhibit that runs from September 4 through September 27.
THe MCNA is located at 108 Cathedral Place, downtown Santa Fe across from the Cathedral. Admission to the opening and exhibition is free. Call 505.983.1666 for more information.

Paschall , a member of New Mexico Wax, recently took two prizes at Santa Fe's prestigious 2009 Indian Market. She placed second in the Abstract Painting category and also took second place in Printmaking. Congratulations, Sallyann.
